Abstract

Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles were synthesized by precipitationtechnique and used along with cationic finishes to improve thewet rub fastness properties and flexing resistance of coatedleather. The morphology, composition, and structure of the ZnOnanoparticles were analyzed using Scanning ElectronMicroscopy (SEM) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD). ZnOnanoparticles were dispersed in water and incorporated indifferent ratios in conventional Nitrocellulose lacquer emulsiontopcoat formulation was coated on the leather surface by spraycoater. ZnO nanoparticles coated leather samples exhibitedimproved wet and dry rub fastness and flexing resistanceproperty. Optimum quantity up to 2-4 g/L of ZnO nanoparticlesin the season was desirable for upgrading the value of leathers.ZnO nanoparticles in cationic finishing can be highly beneficialfor up gradation of low-grade crust with improved fastnessproperties without affecting its natural look and feel.
