Abstract
Das Spannungsverhältnis der Gedächtnisfunktion und der Kommunikationsfunktion von Sprache und Schrift wird in Das unerbittliche Gedächtnis anhand der Diskrepanz der kognitiven Fähigkeiten des Erzählers und der von ihm beschriebenen Person verhandelt. Die Beschreibungen von Funes’ Umgang mit Zeichensystemen und die Reflexionen des Erzählers über die beschriebenen Ereignisse lassen sich mit Hilfe verschiedener Strategien literaturwissenschaftlicher Texterschließung kategorisieren. Der Zugang der Figuren zu ihrem Gedächtnis soll hier deshalb mit zwei zueinander konträren Perspektiven der Textanalyse verglichen werden. Das Entwerfen einer zeitlichen Ordnung alphabetischer Schrift in den verschiedenen Ansätzen spielt dabei eine entscheidende Rolle.
