Abstract

This paper seeks to demonstrate, that teaching students first as positivist Observers, facilitates a less abrupt or ruptured transition from convention to abstraction in an analogous fashion to the ways in which cultural observation techniques that evolved in the 18th +19th centuries provoked the 20th century avant-garde abstraction.
