Abstract

In this paper I describe the pedagogical intentions behind the use of casting as a means of production in introductory design projects. The duration (or lack of immediacy) in the process of casting develops the students’ ability to translate/oscillate/switch between positive form and void space, which is fundamental to architectural design.
