Abstract: Restrictions of felony charges create lifelong limitations on employment opportunity for those convicted. From the time they receive the charge, those with a felony on their record face collateral consequences. While there is a reason that the criminal justice system is in place, the requirements placed on those with felony charges make it near impossible to improve on their mistakes. This study will explore impacts on employment for those with felony charges. It will also examine how restrictions by felony charges and expungement hurt rather than help those convicted as explained through participants' personal perspective.
