Engaging Youth in School-Based Primary Prevention of Sexual Violence

This field report describes Speak Up, a primary sexual assault prevention education program for middle-school youth in Northern Colorado, developed and implemented by the Sexual Assault Victim Advocate Center. After describing the program’s history, design, key activities, and evaluation efforts, we offer several recommendations for wider implementation of this type of program, including making programs sustainable through partnership, the importance of strong evaluation efforts, and effectively supporting program staff.
