Notes Toward a Theory of Mapping Behavior

Abstract

Mapping behavior appears to be a normal activity in human beings of all ages and all cultures, akin to language behavior and perhaps equally primitive and basic. The present informal paper explores some of the evidence for this position, some of its theoretical implications, and some of its implications for preschool and elementary education.
