Abstract

This paper is designed to help bridge the communication gap between developmental psychologists conducting research on human early experience and professionals concerned with design or public policy issues involving child care. It is organized around three principles of environmental action which are headed: (1) all stimulation isnot social, (2) there ain't no such thing as a good environment, and (3) all kids are not created equal. The implications of these principles for the design and evaluation of child care environments are detailed.
