When Finance Meets Stories

Abstract

The influence of the financial industry on financial education is palpable in the course curriculum and syllabi creating a sometimes impersonal approach to the subject. I redesigned my insurance mathematics course to become a story with relatable characters. This created an obstacle course, and my students used their newfound insurance knowledge to help the protagonist advance. Every mathematical concept was introduced in the context of the main character's journey.
