Author Guidelines

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor has it been submitted before to another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in comments to the editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines stylesheet, which is found in 'About the Journal'.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Articles should be fifteen to twenty-five pages in length, double spaced. We only accept submissions formatted according to the MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing (Eighth Edition). A helpful guide is available from the Purdue Online Writing Lab: MLA Style Introduction

Before submitting the articles, all metadata and name/affiliation need to be removed. If submitting a book review, name and affiliation may remain in the heading of the review. Find information on how to remove metadata here.

Articles need to be formatted according to the focus on German Studies stylesheet (PDF).
