Abstract

An experiment is reported, the results of which are taken to support Kolers’ theory of directional consistency in letter identification. The connection between this effect and a number of studies on the identification of tachistoscopically presented patterns is commented upon. The connection between the effect and the results of experiments on visual search is also noted.
