Randolph Quirk

Randolph Quirk is Quain Professor of English in the University of London (London WC1E 6BT) and director of the Survey of English Usage. He was sometime visiting fellow at Yale and Michigan, and has also paid lecture visits to several other university centers in the U.S. as well as in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, USSR, India, Malaysia, and most countries of Europe. His research is chiefly in the field of modern English syntax and lexicology; among the books he has written, alone or in collaboration, are A Grammar of Contemporary English ( 1972), The Linguist and the English Language ( 197 4), and Old English Literature-A Practical Introduction ( 197 5).
