Abstract

Judges rated their preferences for pages of instructional text which varied in terms of their layout, their wording or both of these features. Three different methods of assessing preferences were used. The results suggested that these measures could provide useful enough rough quantitative data but that they could not be relied upon too greatly when fine judgment was required.
