Abstract

A review of Richard Lanham’s computer version of The Electronic Word becomes the occasion for reflection on typographic performance on the page and screen. The rhetorical role of typography is examined in relation to interpretation and meaning of the text. Lanham’s argument that communication needs to be looked at rather that through is extended through demonstration. The format of this example of the Expanded Book is subject to critical scrutiny.
