Cultural Dimensions of Visual Communication: An Introduction

Abstract

Serving as an introduction to the special issue, Cultural Dimensions of Visual Communication, the articles are introduced along with the major themes that run through them and that are often shared. The issue is put into a larger context with a brief discussion of the framework of global theorist Arjun Appadurai. Culture in this issue has a double meaning: it refers to geography or location and it refers to complex human associations organized through language, professional interest, travel or other indicators.
